In big cities like New York, most small mosques are illuminated by harsh fluorescent lights, which are not ideal for prayer. Many larger, historic mosques, however, use natural light filtered through jali screens, creating a peaceful and contemplative atmosphere. The Manar Sconce (meaning 'guiding light' in Arabic) brings that experience to smaller spaces by mimicking natural light and projecting Islamic patterns across the room. Its form is inspired by traditional Muslim architecture, particularly the elegant arches found in mosque ceiling corners worldwide. By fitting seamlessly into any 90-degree corner, it integrates easily into a variety of prayer rooms while optimizing the space. The design aims to transform small places of prayer into serene, contemplative spaces that make the user feel grounded.
