Sparking curiosity that leads to illumination, the object is an assemblage of readymade, found, and fabricated elements. Inspired by laboratory tabletop set-ups, a readymade retort clamp is transposed into the domestic. The user is invited to find materials and objects that will be held against the amber light to observe their translucency. Selected as an example, an early 20th-century glass plate negative is clamped revealing a still life photo of daisies. With the object, curiosity is fostered through the act of finding materials, and intimacy is established with the handling of the clamp.
